 Who was Fred Thompson?

He was the guy who created Luna Park in Coney Island, Brooklyn, in 1904!

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image admin_label=”Image” src=”https://jeffreylindberg.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Fred-Thompson-at-desk.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”off” url_new_window=”off” animation=”left” sticky=”off” align=”left” force_fullwidth=”off” always_center_on_mobile=”on” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid” title_text=”Fred Thompson doing what he did best- designing and creating.”] [/et_pb_image][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” text_font_size=”14″ use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

In the early part of the 20th century, Fred Thompson, along with some help from his friend Elmer Skip Dundy, created and built Luna Park in Coney Island, Brooklyn. You can read the brief synopsis of Fred Thompson in this wikipedia link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luna_Park,_Coney_Island_(1903)   Fred pair- painting & drawing

Fred Thompson is now a fictional character in my upcoming story

“Coney – A Trip to Luna Park”

www.coneybook.com

In my story: “Coney – A Trip to Luna Park”, (which is complete fiction of course!) Fred Thompson builds his new amusement park – and keep in mind this term probably hadn’t been invented yet – directly on top of the homes of our 2 heroes – Sister & Brother Rabbit. Our 2 Rabbits are not happy about this.  And unlike other rabbits who would run away as frightened bunnies are known to do… these Rabbits turn around and confront poor old Freddy T!

I invite all those who may be interested in Coney Island, Luna Park, children’s picture books, and fantasy- to visit my site dedicated to the creation of this book.

I have been fascinated with Coney Island for many years, researching the history in words and images. This story came to me like a lightning bolt- and I have developed it to a stage where I want to share it with everyone!

In the next few months I will be posting new drawings and paintings on a regular basis as I continue work towards the completion of the books images and design. My ultimate goal is to have the work crowd-sourced on Kickstarter.

In the meantime, please check out these sections in my site:

All comments are Very Welcome!  I want to be in touch will all those people out there who may have fond memories of Coney as I do- even though I don’t go back far enough to remember 1904!   Thank you-     Jeff Lindberg

Santa Rides the Subways (a little early) – Jeffrey Lindberg Illustration

Santa Rides the Subways (a little early)

Santa-Rides-Train---Cover-DrawingThis is a concept drawing that I have done for a Christmas children’s book.

The concept is simple: Santa is out delivering presents over Brooklyn USA when his sleigh breaks down and he lands on top of a brownstone in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Enlisting the aid of a young girl, Carmen- and other Brooklynites – Santa gets his sleigh working- with the aid of a subway train!

Below can be seen other concept art for the book.

Watercolor Paintings – Mid-Coast Maine

Popham Beach, Maine

Most of these watercolors I painted on site on Biscay Pond in Damariscotta, Maine.

This is in mid-coast Maine, and for those of you not familiar with some of the smaller towns in Maine, it is about one hour north of Portland.

A beautiful little town that we have been visiting for a long time now- and I never get tired of painting the view that I have had at various houses usually right on Biscay Pond.

Galadriel – Lord of the Rings –  Archival Prints

Galadriel -The Lord of the Rings
Galadriel -The Lord of the Rings

Image directly inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s  “Lord of the Rings” books. This is my imagining of Galadriel where she shows Frodo the pool of water that shows him a possible future. This painting is hanging in my living room- which shows what I think of it!

This painting was carefully using a detailed pencil drawing- followed up by colored pencils, airbrush, acrylics and oil paints. Original painting measures approximately 15″ x 30″ – on board.

John Carter of Mars – Archival Prints

Inspired by the Edgar Rice Burroughs series – “John Carter of Mars” – I painted this sci-fi image that I hoped would lead to doing more science fiction cover work. It did indeed lead to my doing fantasy and sic-fi illustrations for children’s books.

I personally love this painting. It measures approximately 30″ x 20″- on masonite board. Created using airbrush, acrylics and oils.
